**Brief introduction
Bournemouth University (BU) is a modern institution dedicated to delivering professionally-focussed education. Its aim is to prepare students effectively for their future careers. As an educational institution, BU’s history can be traced back to the early 1900s with the foundation of the former Bournemouth Municipal College.

**University ranking
Bournemouth University has risen significantly in higher education league tables published by UK national newspapers. In 2007, Bournemouth achieved its highest ever ranking in The Times 'Good University Guide' moving up 23 places over the last three years to stand at 62nd overall.
In The Guardian 'University Guide' for 2008 (but published in 2007), Bournemouth became the most improved English university by climbing 31 places to stand at 48th overall. The Guardian also made Bournemouth University number one in the UK for courses in Tourism, Transport and Travel.

**Courses at BU for Year 2 entry for BNU students
Duration of the following undergraduate courses at BU is 3 years or 4 years with an optional or compulsory work placement year. The work placement year usually takes place in the 3rd year. During this year, you will spend a minimum 40 weeks in a professional or commercial environment to practice what you have learnt in theory. For BNU students on the 2+2 programme (who join BU from Year 2 of the following courses), duration of their courses at BU can be 2 years or 3 years depending on which of the following options is taken:
Option 1: 2 years without the work placement year
1st year of study: Year 2 at BU
2nd year of study: Year 3/final year at BU
Option 2: 3 years with the work placement year
1st year of study: Year 2 at BU
2nd year of study: Minimum 40 weeks work placement
3rd year of study: Year 3/final year at BU
The Business School has a dedicated work placement officer to offer you advice and all the support you need to secure work placement with a company. BU’s Careers Services is also on hand to help you with CV writing and interview skills. However, it is your responsibility to secure a work placement.

1. Accounting and Business (UCAS code: NN41), Optional Placement Year
Accounting is an integral part of the business decision-making process. On this course you will develop skills in the complementary disciplines of both accounting and business, gaining a broad, relevant and commercial perspective of the corporate environment.
This degree combines both accounting skills and business knowledge, allowing you the opportunity to follow a career in either direction, or to combine the two. You will develop the essential technical and commercial skills demanded by either career path.
2. Accounting and Finance (UCAS code: N420), Optional Placement Year
This degree course is accredited by the accounting professional bodies, enabling students to benefit from relevant exemptions granted by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), The Association of International Accountants (AIA), The Institute of Chartered Accounts in England & Wales (ICAEW) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
Recent graduates have won training contracts with major international accounting firms including PricewaterhouseCoopers and KPMG.
3. Accounting & Law (UCAS code: NM41), Optional Placement Year
This innovative degree combines legal, accounting and business skills. Today's accountants need an understanding of the law, while commercial lawyers often operate in both accounting and financial environments. This degree combines both accounting skills and legal knowledge, allowing you the opportunity to follow a career in either profession, or to combine the two. If you want to know more about the areas of accounting and law before specialising, this degree is the ideal choice.
4. Accounting and Taxation (UCAS code: NN43), Optional Placement Year
If you want to distinguish yourself from other accountancy students, then choose this course. You will acquire a deep understanding of taxation, highly sought after by employers. We have one of the UK’s strongest teaching teams in taxation, and you can expect your studies to be intellectually stimulating through a variety of approaches. After graduation, you are entitled to sit the final exams of the Chartered Institute of Taxation without first passing the exams of the Association of Tax Technicians. This privilege is normally only granted to qualified accountants and lawyers. This accreditation is unique and indicative of the high regard placed upon our tax degree by the tax profession.
5. Finance and Business (UCAS code: NN13), Compulsory Placement Year
Finance is an important element of business. This course focuses on the financial aspects of business operations. There is a high level of demand in the economy for professionals with a combination of specialised financial knowledge and sound business skills.
The placement year allows you to really experience the world of work first hand. Having such valuable work experience ensures that you are more confident and employable after graduation and it also enhances your final year of study.
6. Business Studies (UCAS code: N100), Compulsory Placement Year
Business is a broad and fascinating subject with many different areas to specialise in. The BA (Hons) Business Studies degree has specialist pathways to choose from, each one concentrating on a particular aspect of business:

Whichever pathway you choose, at the end of your degree you will have gained qualities enabling you to manage a range of business activities in a global context.
Employability and career prospects are at the heart of our Business courses. As part of your degree you will spend 40 weeks working within industry, putting the theory from your first two years on the course into practice. The work experience will also help you make informed choices about your future career.
**Entry requirements for Year 2 entry of courses at the Business School at BU
Academic entry requirements: Students from the International Finance College (IFC) at BNU must have successfully completed their 2 years’ study in Zhuhai and have achieved a GPA of 2.5 in the 2nd year of study.
English language entry requirements: IELTS (Academic) 6.0 or equivalent TOEFL scores (213 for computer-based test, 550 for paper-based, and 80 for internet-based).
Students who have achieved IELTS (Academic) 5.5 (with minimum 5 in writing) can join the Bournemouth University Preparatory English Programme (BUPEP) from 7 July to 19 September 2008. There is a fee of £2,250 for BUPEP and you have to pass this course before you can start the degrees in the Business School in October 2008.

**Fees for 2008/09 Academic Year
£8,000 per year for the course and £1,500 for the work placement year (sandwich year). Fees remain the same throughout your study at BU. The following illustration gives you an idea of the fees charged for the duration of your study:
Option 1: 2 years’ study without a work placement year
Year 1 (Year 2 entry at BU): £8,000
Year 2 (Year 3 /final year at BU): £8,000
Option 2: 2 years’ study plus a work placement year in between
Year 1 (Year 2 entry at BU): £8,000
Year 2 (work placement year with a company): £1,500
Year 3 (Year 3/final year at BU): £8,000
You will get 5% discount off the tuition fee if you pay it in full at enrolment.
Estimated living expenses is approximately £8,000 per year which includes accommodation, bills, food and transport.
**Accommodation
A place in University accommodation is guaranteed to all new international students who apply for a room before a deadline of the 14th August 2008. You can apply for accommodation as soon as your offer is unconditional. Prices for University managed accommodation ranged from £2,700 to £5,000 for the 2007/08 academic year (Prices for 2008 will be available shortly).
